Course Outcomes:
After completion of this course, students will be able to:
C7EE4-12.1 Describe the distribution-sector power quality problems and explain the possible applications of FACTS devices as solution provider for the same.
C7EE4-12.2 Analyse Series and Shunt reactive power compensation formulation at mid-point of AC transmission line through various Line Commutated Converter (LCC) thyristor-based ‘first generation T-FACTS’ devices.
C7EE4-12.3 Develop the mathematical model of various ‘second and third generation Voltage Source Converter (VSC) based T-FACTS’ devices and implement them for reactive power compensation of AC-transmission system with respect to the various Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) strategies.
C7EE4-12.4 Model ‘third generation VSC based D-FACTS device DSTATCOM’ as per the different current extraction/control theories to illustrate its role in harmonic and unbalance mitigation compared to the shunt active filters in Power Distribution systems.
C7EE4-12.5 Apply the control strategies of ‘third generation VSC based D-FACTS devices DVR and UPQC’, for series active filtering, reactive power compensation, sag/swell mitigation and power-flow control in Distribution networks.
